2月27日 - The BBC's Audience Research Dept. filed an Audience Research Report on Spearhead from Space Episode 1. The episode rated a Reaction Index of 54, with new Doctor Jon Pertwee having been "accepted without question".^[1]

10月5日 - In the US, the National Educational Television network was rebranded and relaunched as the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS). This loose affiliation of broadcasters introduced countless UK-produced television programs to North American audiences over the next four decades. It became the primary broadcast home of the 1963-89 version of Doctor Who beginning in the late 1970s.

10月27日 - Script editor Terrance Dicks wrote to writer Louis Marks about Marks' story idea for Day of the Daleks, "the addition of the 'going into the future' storyline gives it the added science fiction feeling that we need." He however explained that he had not yet been given to all-clear to commission another season, and thus could not yet commission his storyline. He finally gave the order on 1月22日 1971.
